I think this is an improvement over what's there, so I'm +1 on it, though I think that we could do a better job of giving people guidance here.

As a follow-up step, what if we added a page to the Jupyter docs like Cite Jupyter Projects. On that page / section, we'd note that Jupyter has a number of semi-independent sub-projects, many of which have their own scholarly artifacts for citation. We can then include a list of the known papers that are out there along with bibtex entries etc to make it easier for people. Once that exists, we can add a short section here like Cite Jupyter at the bottom of the About page, and it would redirect to the docs page.

Sounds good to me, though those additional cites are beyond my scope of knowledge.
