JupyterHub Team In-Person Meetings - initial planning questions for the team #753
Comments
Exciting! fwiw, I have an Indian passport (even though I live in the US), and visas can be... interesting. I just want that to be taken into consideration too in picking where we meet, as one of the factors! |
Nothing major booked in yet beyond May for me. And I'll go wherever is easiest for Yuvi to get access to. |
Hi everyone! I'd be keen to join the meeting.... but I'm not totally clear on my eligibility 🙈 I am arguably a member of the CZI grant delivery team as an advisor even though I'm not employed at the Turing any more. On the other hand, I'm really hoping that I'll get more connected with JupyterHub through my new role at Berkeley Institute for Data Science... But I haven't started that yet! So, idk, I'm open to folks having a bit of a private chat and determining my eligibility! My dates are pretty chill for now. I don't think anything is firmly in the calendar for the summer / fall yet. I'll be based in California but always happy to travel back to the UK / Europe. Visa-wise I shouldn't be too difficult to accommodate (UK passport and O1 visa in the USA.) My limitation is that I'd need to travel with Mackenzie and she'd need a babysitter so having me attend becomes expensive unfortunately. That's a bad reason to exclude me (especially on a DEI grant!) BUT we do need to be thoughtful about the eligibility of attendees to receive funding especially if I'm borderline! Whatever happens, it will be a great event! |
Hi all, thanks for the input! We will definitely look at where could maximise attendance with the minimum of hassle (re: visas). For example, from an initial scan of publicly available info, it does look like there's a critical mass of folks in California so that might be the best option for an initial meeting in Q2 of 2025. We could agree dates for European meeting later in the year (i.e. October) at the same time, to give those who need visas time to apply. People who have not weighed in yet, please do! We will finalise dates and locations in January and get started planning, |
Maybe of interest to @rgaiacs :) |
Thanks @arnim. I don't know regarding my eligibility and my agenda is full for Q1 and Q2. I should be available later in the year (i.e. October) for a meeting in Europe. |
With the caveat that we will go wherever is best for the JH Team: I'm based in California (about 60 miles south of SF) so that would be great for me (and cost-saving!). I know it's a short trip for Beth as well. |
As part of #709 the team is planning two leadership workshops in 2025 to bring people together in person to discuss the findings of the "Voices of JupyterHub" report, community build, and develop community pathways.
Questions we'd like to put to the JupyterHub team specifically:
(we have budget for travel and accommodation for folks)
Once we have the logistical questions sorted, we'd also like to work to co-create the agenda with the team, incorporating learnings from the work that Organisational Mycology are doing.
I'll be at a collaboration cafe in Jan to discuss this but would appreciate comments on this issue in the meantime so we can start pinning things down!
