First search in Safari for iOS address bar fails

Hello, I'm new to kagi and testing it.

I have installed the kagi extension for safari for iOS. My Session link is configured.

When I type some search words in the address bar, it opens the kagi landing page but does search anything. I see the browser being redirected around a couple of times but it's too quick for me to understand what's happening, but I end up on the kagi landing page, with empty search field and no search results.

If, in the exact same tab, I then type again the same search words in the address bar (not in the search field of the kagi landing page which is now open), it works, it does a kagi search.

On normal tabs, it only did this once, the very first time I tested, since then it works. On incognito tabs, which I unfortunately use a lot, it happens once (the first time) for each new incognito tab.

Is this expected?

This is on iOS 16.6.1.
