probably will not fix for IE6, continue to investigate issues in IE7

Perhaps its as simply as enforcing Chrome Frame on all non-evergreen browsers.

It seems like they have stopped support. Boo! I'll try to look into alternate fixes when I have time, but if you come across any, please let me know! Fixed positioning is tricky with older versions of IE.

IMHO people using non-evergreen browsers are used to less than average experiences. It won't be long before browsers that don't auto-update are forgotten. I would say just wait it out and keep the markup shiny & clean :)

Perhaps a nice green overlay that suggests people upgrade. Maybe with an evergreen tree graphic :)

I like your way of thinking :). Sadly, however, I have found that people who use IE6 and IE7 are often bound by IT departments that prevent them from upgrading their own software, so it is nice to help them out.
