About Adaptive Runtime Platform

Hybrid apps are applications that are built using HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript web technologies and use a native "containers" to package the app to enable access to the native functionalities of a device. In essence, you can write a rich mobile/wearable/tv application using HTML and JavaScript and package that application as a native app for multiple mobile/wearable/tv platforms and distribute them on the different app stores and markets.

The Adaptive Runtime Platform (ARP) provides these native "containers" to package apps for the main mobile, wearable and desktop platforms... and other platforms as they emerge. Adaptive Runtime Platform (ARP) and sub-projects are open-source under the Apache License, Version 2.0. The Adaptive Runtime Platform (ARP) project was created by Carlos Lozano Diez as part of the adaptive.me set of products.

Set-up Environment

Prerequisites

  • You should have JDK 1.7+ installed.
  • You should have Android Studio 1.0.1+ installed.

Importing the Project

  1. Open Android Studio. 😄
  2. Select "Open an existing Android Studio project".
  3. Select the folder where you checked-out the project, inside you'll find "adaptive-arp-rt" - select build.gradle. ./<repo_path>/adaptive-arp-rt/build.gradle
  4. Android Studio will show the "Import Project from Gradle" dialog.
    • Check the box "Create directories for empty content roots automatically".
    • Select radio button "Use default gradle wrapper".
    • Project format: we recommend you use .ipr file based.
    • Hit OK and let Android Studio munch through the configuration.
  5. Click "No" on the "Language Level Changes" dialog and wait for gradle to finish downloading dependencies.
  6. After gradle finishes downloading dependencies, you're good to go.
  7. Check everything is ok by running gradle assemble build on the top level project.
    • You can do this within the IDE or from command line.
