Currently Kibana 3 redirects to /connectionFailed if a connection fails to Elasticsearch. This causes 2 issues.
Dashboards being displayed go to /connectionFailed if there are any networks issues, and then have to be manually returned to the correct page. If you have a lot of dashboards a single network issue can create a lot of work for someone having to login to every dashboard device.
If the query in a dashboard becomes invalid. (Say a mapping is removed from the Elasticsearch cluster) it is impossible to correct that query as the dashboard disappears the moment you open it.
If this behavior was removed or made optional, it would make using Kibana 3 for dashboards much easier.
