A cam icon will be just fine next to the nickname in the nicklist and/or in a channel just like you have for away. in #44 there was a mention on this as an indication for others to know if someone is in a call.
Well my idea was that there will be an icon to show that people have "cam/microphone" but your ide for "if they are in the call" is good too.
You can do this, one color for icon to show that people have camera/microphone (private- not in the channel) and other color to know if people are in the call using cam.
Example:
main channel have conference room disabled but enabled private calls
people that want to use camera/mic private can see who has camera/mic
it will be hmm green color.
if people are in the call it could be yellow color.
In that case, people with cam will see other people that have camera (because some of users dont use devices with camera (old devices). Yeah i know cam is a standard of 2010 but still IRC is older than that.
