Why data messages for android push

Could you, please, clarify, why notifications for android without remote message only custom payload?

I'm using several services in the app and only your service, forces me to do redundant work with handling it at the background and show it as local notification.
Because, otherwise campaign for android users, with push notification, will be useless.

Firebase's notification messages do not support deep linking properly: there is no way to specify the URL for the notification intent's data property in the notification message payload. As such, we use data messages and provide a display notification method that is quite similar to the firebase SDK's internal display mechanism. An additional bonus from this is that Klaviyo's notifications can behave consistently whether the app is in the foreground or background. Of course you can override any of this behavior in your onMessageReceived method.

If you take a peek under the hood at FirebaseMessagingService implementation (below), you can see how a notification message would be displayed, and how onRemoteMessage gets called. We're working around firebase's internal display method because of the deep linking limitation. But this doesn't put any additional strain on the device's resources compared to Firebase.
