Problem Statement

From @rikatz in slack:

https://kubernetes.slack.com/archives/CPNFRNLTS/p1709163278689879

apparently one of our documentation pages got into DCMA and removed from Google Search, and it seems like…not right…
https://lumendatabase.org/notices/29864590#

If you search for kubernetes.github.io you are gonna see that specifically one example for affinity was removed. Seems the entity that generated the petition just spammed a bunch of urls that has been accepted. What should we do in this case?

Proposed Solution

... good question.

Raised in #steering-private to discuss possible next steps, I'd tentatively guess we ping LF legal but I'm going to wait for more response from other members first ...

I think what's happening is the publishers of various Kubernetes books are employing scan-and-DMCA-bots that are finding matches against our docs >.>

Reaching out to our CNCF rep to start.

So far: ... it's not really clear how we can best handle this ... I think it's going to be really difficult to sustain and keep after (also do we include other search engines? DMCA isn't limited to google search but the takedown requests will be per-site AIUI)
