After an scenery reload, AO crash and leave in place a FUSE mount. This is in XP12 on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (didnot have this problem with v0.4.3, multiples scenery reloads to view my WED editings) The error message is: Manually unmount with: |

That error is on AO restart because the mount is still there from the previous run. Can you show us the actual AO crash? Because that is where we need to handle the exception and the unmounting should take place. Nota bene: just |

Windows 10 and Doken installed. Removed all instances and files from the 4.3 build. On starting up v5.0 I get the following error. I just close the window and continue with configuration and installation of scenery. Seems to happen each time I start up 5.0

Second issue outside of the initial starting of the program and the error that happens. SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/yAutoOrtho_Overlays/ Started XP and no issues at all at this point. XP did start fine at this point, and had no issues. So shut down XP and then restarted Auto Ortho and restarted XP. SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/yAutoOrtho_Overlays/ Shutdown XP and restarted (left Auto Ortho running) and it recreated the missing entry in the scenery.ini however it put that at the top of the list and had to shut XP down again, move that entry to the bottom in the place it should be (shown below) then could restart XP and have the auto ortho scenery work fine. The z_autoortho folder is just really a location within custom scenery that contains metadata and contains the source folders for the mount point. It really can live anywhere (Though I suspect Windows has limits on mounting across drives or some such). For this project to work it must mount from a source location (z_autoortho/scenery/z_ao_eur for example) to a destination location (Custom Scenery/z_ao_eur) for example. It then intercepts requests on the destination. So z_autoortho can't be mounted on itself. Previously, I had effectively a bunch of scenery folders that had most things setup directly under Custom Scenery, and a single mount within z_autoortho that was then symlinked/junctioned all over the place. This (detecting a theme here) worked just perfectly well on Linux (symlink support follows sane permission rules and is a first-party citizen as far as the filesystem is concerned) but has all kinds of consequences on Windows (there are 3 at least ways of doing this all with varying issues and restrictions!) So what might be interesting to find out is that after Dokan unmounts the folder on Windows, is there a way to still treat this as a regular folder? If so, then we see what things XPlane would minimally expect in that folder in order to still keep it in the scenery list. |

I think this is related with my previous message. When AO keep a mount point in place after a crash or a restart it can't create the mountpoint again and XP didn't find that mountpoint in the filesystem and delete the scenery_packs.ini entry. |

Not sure, maybe. I think WinFSP may be more sensitive to this than Dokan, so if that's the method in use, it's possible. There will be a log message close to the start though that there is an issue with the mount though, so should be pretty clear. |

Why would you not want to do this? yeah it takes some time but it sure beats then trying to figure out what broke when you have half of something from an earlier version installed. |

you're right, but i've asked because package versions seems to be unchanged. what changed was the location and that would be easy to sort out by changing simlinks acordingly. |

IMO the installation is different enough from the first one that I would rather follow the directions posted. Try it and see how it works out. |

I would definitely recommend resetting up scenery since the install is handled quite differently. There is no longer a single shared 'textures' folder that is symlinked/junctioned to dozens of separate dirs in Custom Scenery. If you retained the original zip files, and they are in the downloads folder still, then they should end up being reused. This will result in a cleaner and simpler layout, that hopefully supports more user setups. |

can someone explain how does the new file structure work? One sets X-Plane Scenery path to X-Plane\Custom Scenery folder. What folders for autoortho are set in it? I can only find z_autoortho\Scenery with z_ao_eur and z_ao_na inside, in my case... is this correct? |

The new setup for 5.0 has 3 configuration area's for files you need to select locations for.
Then you have the scenery choices in the setup file for the area's you want to download Once you have done that and you press save and run and then start xplane, in the scenery.ini file it creates the following entries shown below in your case which should be moved to the very bottom of the scenery.ini file or you will have no scenery in xplane when it starts up SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/yAutoOrtho_Overlays/ In your case the z_ao_eur and z_ao_na scenery area's if those are the two you downloaded should be in two locations. They should be folders with a shortcut or link arrow on them in the xplane/custom scenery folder and in the scenery.ini (shown above) and also inside this folder below as well with other files inside them SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/z_autoortho/ |

Yes you should be able to, I've got all this loaded in my XP11 folder and then in XP12 I have it simlinked to my XP11 custom scenery folder and no issues at all. Be aware of an issue if you don't start up AO and then XP does start up, the following folders will be removed below (and you will be back on stock XP scenery) and you will have to then start up AO which will recreate them, then you have to stop XP and go back to the scenery.ini and rearrange entries again. (unless you backup your scenery.ini and then you can just copy it back in. SCENERY_PACK Custom Scenery/z_ao_na/ |

What you could try is to set the Custom Scenery to your local drive. That's the key directory that can be a bit tricky. You could set your cache folder and download folder to an external drive (assuming it's pretty fast!) |

So, what i did was to move the custom scenery folder to my local drive as you suggested, and installed a random scenery pack without errors (just switched to 0.4.4), however I'm not sure if XP11 will run properly with the CS folder in it? |

So there seems to be some slowness in the servers and lots of IMG failures happening. I just installed NA and it crashed with can't use z_ao_na but I restarted AO and XP and it loaded fine after that. I'm in the process of reloading EUR scenery now to the local XP installation. I've seen some of the this flakiness off and on with my setup, but normally just restarting clears it up. In your logs there was a crash in XP |

Having the exe and the new version now but before the installation do I have to uninstall all the huge GB Z- files as I've read, I had the entire world, not a problem to do so but I want to make sure I'm correct? Tks guys |

This will all change in the new version, these folders will be gone and new structure put in place. You should however if you have the room keep a copy of all this with the 4.x version your running so if the new one acts up you can put this all back. If you have the zips from the original install you can keep those and save time redownloading since those are the same zips used with either version |

Not really same errors with it set for False or True, GET_IMG failed errors, time out on server connections, it still works but takes a lot longer to load up with these. Seems the NA is not as bad as the EUR and SA area's. |

With 'True' I get XP failing with scenery dsf not found. With 'False' XP doesn't error out but just sits there doing nothing at all. Task Manager indicates no activity 0% for XPlane connections. Attempts to End Task fail and a Log Out of Windows (not a restart) forces a disconnect of sorts, but after logging back in a 'hidden' instance of XPlane still exists and it can not be restarted. A full reboot of the system is required to reset things fully. |

Interesting, I can get the dsf not found either way. I changed out my 12 year old HD for an SSD drive last night for testing and most of the errors are now gone. I've had one dsf error and 2 can't find IMG failed errors and that's it. Maybe yesterday the gremlins or something else was going on, or maybe the HD was really having a bad time it was very slow, now I can load up sceneries in a fraction of the time. Strange JuJu's going on... |

I'm stuck again with Windows defender, more than never (I unchecked all the protections yet), I even tried to authorize but it doesn't work, it drives me crazy, a break will be good in order to give a try to install the exe tomorrow in a calm and nice mood ;-) |

Have you tried using the autoortho_win.zip instead of the all in one exe?
That should hopefully work better with defender.

Does it mean that I have to delete all the "old" z_aus_pac from Custom Scenery (which will take a while because of more than 140 GB around for all my AO files? Or it overwrites the old files, I'm so so confused, sorry not that easy to understand everything how does it work on my side, so I read, I try and I ask hhh |

I was quite optimistic after having downloaded without any issue the Aus_pac files to give a try but after lauching XP during "reading scennery" I had an error message as shown below (screenshot) |

Indeed same here, I didn't try to restart so far, it was 3am when I got this msg. It's kind of a good news if you get rid of it after a few attemps if I understood correclty, right? Because I didn't change anything in my folders/Custom scenery still on the disk "G", Xplane on SSD "D" and everything is linked correctly as usual, the fact is that I didn't get this errror msg on previous downloads last AO version... I also let the program downloading NA during the night but maybe the PC put itself on stand by, this morning I had to download again NA everything. I have a great internet connexion however still downloading NA (without any issue so far) since 5 hours!!! and it will take maybe 3/4 hours more to get the entire regions North USA (takes longer than before for some x reasons) The question I have, is it possible to "save" the downloading in order to fly a little bit today and getting back to complete the download later? I guess yes but I want to make sure because based on the slow downloading it will take days to have the entire world as I had before which took only 6 hours previoulsy to have the planet in my screen hhh maybe the files are optimized which could explain that. It's ok I do a World Tour IVAO, I'm virtally in US currently lol so I can download the earth step by step... ;-)

You can save the downloaded files, I did that so I don't have download when testing things. Go to your .autoortho settings under your user account. In there is a setting as shown below. Change this to True and once downloaded installed they won't delete. You can then move to a safe spot or if you have space leave them there so they don't get deleted \[scenery] |

I'm sorry I don't find the autoortho settings, which user account you talk about? Again I'm lost and by the way I lost all the files I did download after so many hours.... first I thought that just by saving from the application would be enough, but indeed all my NA files that I tried to download since yesterday and this whole day are gone! :-( back to square one, I should have stayed on the previous version but couldn't know that it will take so long and that it will be so complex (on my side)... I'll try to find the time to download again but I want to fly the REP Simcoders Cub that I bought yesterday, just a short flight pattern, she's waiting for me to fly poor girl ;-) |

Can you tell me how to get rid of freezing when download images? Especially when you fly to vatsim, xplane freezes and I disconnect from the network, then the connection is restored, but it's unpleasant! My connection speed is 800/800m/b |

Same here I experienced the same yesterday (Last AO version) KCOS/KLAS A319 Toolis IVAO, I only had one "xplane freezes" in cruise, but once I did proceed the approach on KLAS it was extremely unflyable, I had 14 alarms online, I even got stuck for 1 or 2 min (which is very long, on stand by in the air lol, new quantum physics lol) it was very hard to land, the touch down was smooth but it froze again noise up before the front wheels touched down. I tried Process Lasso, settings based on tuto etc but it doesn't really work (placebo effects... I have great perf in general with or without PLasso) so that I had no choice to use this fantastic and creative AO freeware program (thanks to the dev for that and his team) only for VFR now, because I just can't fly airliners whitout a myriad of "xplanes freezes" and same than @dpdurst around 40 connection, I do believe that the issue is the speed of the big birds and the stream cannot follow. |

I do have some partial work done that would allow you to optionally 'downgrade' the overall detail level. With zoom levels, each step you reduce, you reduce the amount of 'stuff' to process by a factor of 4. |
