What do you mean by "ip common"? "common" isn't a subcommand of the ip command. There is a ip command in toybox, but it's unfinished.

Could you show how a feature like "ip common" would be used?

There is a ip command in the pending/ directory, it is unfinished and not included into toybox by default though.

If you want to use it, you will need the source code and can switch it on it make menuconfig in the pending/ menu. You can also build only the ip command by running make ip (This binary will work like a normal linux
binary, no multiplexer or need to symlink things).
