How to use the author-year style citation

Hello, I try to compile the samplepaper.tex file in the zip package with \documentclass[citeauthoryear]{llncs}, but it is not working as expected. \cite command only gives pure numbers without brackets rather than author (year). How can I get the author-year citation?

Currently, we have natbib in place. We need to look into it more thoroughly. The documentation states:

Not sure whether we need to rely on splncs04.bst or plain latex.

Need to try.
