As a user I want to be able to search and browse for common aliases of legislation, such as POPIA #1623
Comments
@longhotsummer As I mentioned on the Slack thread https://zatech.slack.com/archives/C064L8BRV7H/p1700899820738399 it would be great to have this feature considering that in my experience most legislation is referenced using the acronyms such as POPI, BCEA, PAIA and etc |
@shailen-naidoo this is now supported end-to-end, so the team will populate the common aliases and you'll be able to search for them on lawlibrary.org.za. For example, here's POPIA: https://lawlibrary.org.za/search/?q=popia |
Wow, that is amazing! I tried breaking the feature as I assume that you
would need to support the alias upon request. For example: PDA (Protected
Disclosures Act) does not work so I assume that you would need to manually
add that. I guess I can also contribute to the project and add aliases
whenever it does not work or it cannot find it.
Kind regards
Shailen

We're still populating the aliases, and I've asked the team to start with your suggestions. If you have others, please do let us know. |
That is all good!
I will make sure to notify the team via this thread with any aliases that
would make it helpful to interact with the project. This is an amazing
addition to the project and makes it 1000x more helpful!
Kind regards
Shailen

Hey Greg,
How can I provide you with a list of aliases?
1. PDA - Protected Disclosures Act
2. BCEA - Basic Conditions of Employment Act
These are some common legislation that I use, please could you support
these for me or at least show me where I can create the alias and then I
would be happy to submit a PR in my own capacity.
Kind regards

Hi Shailen, this is a good mechanism, or you can email them to [email protected] or via the contact form at https://lawlibrary.org.za/about/ |
Hi Greg, thanks for the heads up. I will continue to use this thread to
submit aliases, I guess you will do it on a per-a-request basis from users?

Peachjam supports this through the AlternativeNames relationship.
What is required is for the Indigo ingestor to be able to fetch aliases from Indigo, and laws-africa/indigo#1909 in indigo.
