Left Nav Compression and Expansion #40

When expanding the left nav and clicking on a menu item, the nav is compressed again. It's a little disorienting especially for new users.

What if we:

by default expand the nav since most new users won't know what the icons mean
leave the nav in the state that the user expects so that if it is expanded, it stays expanded when a link is clicked on and vice versa when it is collapsed (which it does now) until the user decides if it should be expanded or compressed.
