"All 3-D connected components in the resulting binary 3-D Matrix are calculated, and only those not touching the matrix corner and having a volume between 0.68L and 7.5L L are kept"

Why is the volume set to this limit? Some CT scans are being preprocessed due to it? is there a citation or reason?
