On ROUTER sockets, when the SNDHWM is reached on outgoing pipes, messages are dropped. Since the authenticator is a router, it could theoretically fall behind, causing dropping at a level other than configured on other sockets that rely on the authenticator. It's not clear whether this can occur or not, although if it can it would be very unlikely to manifest given the design of the authenticator.
