The SSPL license introduced by MongoDB in 2018 makes it difficult to use the most loved by developers, the NoSQL database, for projects they are working on.
FerretDB uses MongoDB drivers and utilizes PostgreSQL as a backend. Software is designed to work in different environments to guarantee developers the flexibility they need to create modern applications. Because of that, FerretDB becomes a drop-in replacement for MongoDB in many cases.
FerretDB allows you to use all tools, drivers, UIs, and the same query language as MongoDB and stay open-source. The mission is to enable the open-source community and developers to reap the benefits of easy-to-use document databases while avoiding vendor lock-in and faux pen licenses.
Target Audience
developers, MongoDB users

My vision is that open source will be as sustainable in terms of product and revenue growth as proprietary solutions as more and more entrepreneurs will work on open source projects.
