When publishing with github pages, marginnotes appear in homepage post list

What version of Hugo are you using ($ hugo version)?

hugo v0.133.1+extended darwin/arm64 BuildDate=2024-08-26T13:58:46Z VendorInfo=brew

What operating system and processor architecture are you using?

macos 15.0 (24A335)

What did you do?

deploy to github pages with instructions from hugo: https://gohugo.io/hosting-and-deployment/hosting-on-github/

What did you expect to see?

same homepage on local machine server as github pages

What did you see instead?

marginnotes appearing in the homepage post list:

If you have a hugo log output, please paste it below.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. pull in tufte theme
2. build post with marginnote near the top
3. deploy to github pages

Current workaround is to just use descriptions for all posts.
