Users frequently need additional packages over what's provided in the default environment. The "conda way" to do this is to create a new (personal) environment and add new packages there, i.e.:
LSST stack doesn't have a conda distribution, so the above won't work -- they'd have to create a new environment, then use newinstall (with specific command line switches) to install the stack into the new environment. This is doable for experts, but a hurdle for a more typical user.
May be good to explore what it would take to wrap LSST into valid conda packages, enabling the usual conda environment workflows.
