Just went to play with this again on the dev beta 3 that came out today, but refused to actually launch:

I had to turn off the App Sandbox in RosettaVM.entitlements to get it to actually start up.

Also installing ubuntu server 22.04 will kernel panic when installing updates after the install stage (still boots fine, just requires an additional dpkg --configure -a when booted)

Nevermind, attempting to apt dist-upgrade crashes the VM
CleanShot 2022-07-06 at 14 33 32@2x

sitrep: ran fine after stopping and starting the build in xcode.

That crash looks like the VM is struggling to find enough system memory. While I was working on this on a live stream I had similar errors that I worked around by closing as many macOS apps as possible to free up system memory that the VM could then access. My mac has 16GB of RAM so it might be that if yours only has 8 then there isn't enough available at all for the way I've configured the VM (it requests 4GB of system memory)

I am running Ventura beta 3 Update (22A5295i), and Ubuntu 22.04 stable, installed from the Server ISO, then ubuntu-desktop^ installed to it. I am unable to log into the freshly installed desktop environment, as it immediately drops to the lock screen upon entering my password.

Edit: Upon further testing, it turns out that the default Wayland environment won't start, but the alternate Xorg environment logs in just fine.
