Is it at all planned or even possible to implement a zoom on hover feature for icons smilar to latte's?

It might be possible, but the icon size can only grow as big as the panel thickness (anything bigger than that gets cutoff).

Will try implementing it after I finish the rewrite.

Another option could be adding the feature to a third party Task Manager widget, though FancyTasks only one I know of and hasn't been ported to Plasma 6 yet.
