Options windows, and especially the Initial Moves window, are rather small #137

The Initial Moves window - to give details only about that (but see also #130) is rather small on my main PC - it looks like this:

image
(I show that Initial Moves window against something other than the main LucasChess window, because when I open the Initial Moves window, the main window disappears.)

Also, on a laptop (with x2 HiDPI scaling, if that matters, and running LucasChess under Wine), the Initial Moves window is, if anything, slightly smaller! The smallness of the window make it hard to use.

Thank you for LucasChess.

Any board can be resized in Lucas Chess and independently.

Thanks,. So, for the Initial Moves window, to resize it one must find the small, faint spanner icon? If so: I cannot actually see that icon on the board. Here is a screenshot, at thrice the original size. (I made the enlargement by editing the screenshot. The screenshot was taken on a particular computer, of course - but I looked at the window on another computer too, and still could not see the icon.)

Also, and as I asked, why does the main window disappear? And, further yet, why does the Initial Moves window go atop every other window - not just Lucas ones - on the computer, please? That combination makes me see the following, which surely is not ideal.

EDITED.

You don't have to look for anything, just click on the upper left corner of the board.
In the configuration you can indicate that the wrench icon does not appear, although that area is still functional.

Also, and as I asked, why does the main window disappear?
If you are copying the position from a pdf or from a web page, it will be better to copy the position if the window where we have to copy is small, regardless of the likes of the size of the game board, which could interfere.

Ah, I see the wrench now. It is:

  • in light grey against white;
  • placed on the board itself;
  • and when I place the pointer above it, the pointer is shaped like a . . pawn.

(Douglas Adam's cupboard - the one with 'beware of the leopard' written on it - comes to mind.)

I note also that the 'very large' board size is smaller than the normal playing board. Now you say: 'If you are copying the position from a pdf or from a web page [. .].' But if one is not doing that, then one will wonder what on earth is going on - with the small window size(s), the minimizing of the main window, and the placing of the small Initial Moves window atop all other windows.

So: thank you for the help, but surely you can see that some things need changing here.

So something needs changing here too, I feel.

Sure, along with a lot more, but on my roadmap it is not a priority.
