It would be wonderful to invoke the Alt-Tab switcher using a mouse button, hot corner etc. Many times, I have a non-keyboard device in front of me (e-writer, physical notebook, etc) and the keyboard is pushed to the side. So, it is a little inconvenient to use the keyboard key combo to invoke the switcher.

The closest I could find is enable Alt-Tab to show up in the menu bar (up top). So, I can click on that icon and then hit on 'Show' to show the switcher. However, the problem with this is 1) the icon is small (menu bar size, not your fault), 2) search the icon in the menu bar and slowly take the mouse pointer there 3) once you click on the menu bar icon, we are required to click on 'Show' as well so this requires 2 clicks. So all this is a little inconvenient.

ideas:

  1. If we can have the Alt-tab switcher show up in the doc (big icon and show the switcher immediately not needing a 2nd click), it would be of great help.

  2. Make the menu bar icon invoke the switcher immediately not needing a 2nd click

  3. Make Alt-Tab switcher configurable in the hot-corner (this is the best in my opinion).

Either way, the Alt-Tab is a great utility and I feel sort of liberated when I use it (instead of the Cmd-Tab we get from stock macOS). Great job and huge Thank you!

We have a few tickets related to new input methods to manipulate AltTab (e.g. #756, #641). However my advice to you is to use an app to bind your mouse button if you have extra buttons on your mouse, or to bind a hot corner to a keyboard shortcut. That way you can start using the workflow you want without waiting on AltTab to support it directly.

I'm myself a user of BetterTouchTool, so i can recommend it whole-heartedly. You may even discover new workflows for yourself using it. It truly is a wonderful app. Alternatively you could try the remap via your mouse driver. My logitech/logicool mouse does this out of the box for instance
