Offline speech recognition

Apparently Android (6) has some speech recognition capability even though offline. When offline, if I create an email, I can enter text by activating the microphone on the keyboard (I use swiftkey), and speaking. Google Search of course does not work. When I try to use this plugin, the "end sound" comes immediately after the "start sounds". I wonder if it would be possible to extend the plugin to use whatever facility Android is using to recognize speech offline?

I'm using "cordova-plugin-speechrecognition" spec="~1.1.2" and find that recognition *does* work offline, at least my Motorola G4 Android 7 and a cheap LG running Android 6. It is a bit slower and not quite as accurate, but nonetheless vary good. Does the plugin make a difference? I don't know.

Is this the one that you are using?: https://github.com/pbakondy/cordova-plugin-speechrecognition
It mentions in there that it requires an internet connection to work. If it is the same one you are using, do you need to change anything to get it to work offline?

that's the one I am using. Give it a try. Results may depend on the make and model of the phone--I actually do not know why it works.
