Feature Description

We need to add a feature where paramedics can communicate directly with the patient or their family if the ambulance faces delays. This communication is crucial to guide them on managing the situation while the ambulance is on the way, for example, advising on how to stop blood loss, keep the patient stable, or perform basic first aid. The feature should allow paramedics to send real-time instructions either through text or voice, triggered manually or automatically when the system detects delays via the Google Maps Traffic API. It should also share the ambulance’s real-time location with the patient so they can track the arrival and stay updated. The interface should be simple enough for paramedics to use without distraction while ensuring that the patient side gets notified of any delays or guidance quickly.

Use Case

If the patient is in critical condition, such as experiencing a cardiac arrest, and the ambulance is significantly delayed, paramedics could quickly instruct the patient’s family on performing life-saving techniques like CPR. In this urgent situation, the communication feature could provide clear instructions that might significantly improve the patient's chances of survival before the ambulance reaches the scene.
Another scenario could involve a patient suffering from heavy blood loss. If the ambulance is delayed, paramedics can communicate with the patient’s family, giving them step-by-step instructions on how to apply pressure to the wound and slow the bleeding. This could be a life-saving measure, as it helps the family take immediate action to stabilize the patient until professional help arrives.

Benefits

One of the key benefits of implementing a communication channel between paramedics and patients or their families is that it can greatly improve patient outcomes during emergency situations, especially when delays occur. By providing real-time guidance, paramedics can instruct family members or bystanders on immediate actions, such as stopping blood loss or administering CPR, which can be critical in keeping the patient stable until the ambulance arrives.
