Pass item name to started hook

I've got started hook to start a shell command (locks browser access etc.), and it'd be nice to be able to pass the current task to the script (so I can put it in the menubar).

I'm not familar enough with elisp to make the changes myself (or indeed how to load a forked version of org-pomodoro to tinker with)
