Tell us your idea.

Currently, in horizontal view, the usable space (e.g., the map) is extremely limited because two bars are in the "way" which makes it not nice to use for the map feature:

  • The app's top bar
  • The navigation bar

My proposal:
The top bar of the app should be completely removed in horizontal mode.
The navigation bar should be moved to the left or right side (depending on the feature).
The idea is to make the Meshtastic Android app usable in horizontal mode, similar to ATAK. At the moment, this is only partially feasible because the map section is far too small.

Attached is a rough sketch of how I envision it.
The green buttons on the side should be "hideable" so users can toggle "map-only mode" if they want to maximize screen space effectively. Also the buttons on the right side could be hidable, especially the map-download as you usally dont need it that often.
The "3-dot" menu-button could be replaced with a meshtastic logo as a "advanced menu" button to have the logo visible aswell :)

Example Usecase:

  • Teams (SAR, etc) which are using map/pin/location feature as a priority over text-messages as they rely on radio (voice)
  • Airsoft Milsim
