As we use plan to use METS, PREMIS and, for descriptive metadata, DataCite Metadata in our longtime preservation project, we'd like to ask you to consider adding Datacite, which is required for all DOI being registered nowadays, to the choice of values can be set in MDTYPE attribute.

<xsd:attributeGroup name="METADATA">
	<xsd:attribute name="MDTYPE" use="required">
		<xsd:simpleType>
			<xsd:restriction base="xsd:string">
				<!-- ... -->
				<xsd:enumeration value="DATACITE" />
                            </xsd:restriction>

Using such a value instead of MDTYPE="OTHER" OTHERMDTYPE="Datacite" MDTYPEVERSION="4.4" would reflect DOI and their associated metadata has become widespread, if not even standard in the scientific scene.

The METS 2 beta schema removes the enumerated value restriction for MDTYPE and the other attributes with enumerated values. We will document commonly-used values at https://github.com/mets/METS-schema/wiki/METS2-Suggested-Attribute-Values, and have included DataCite there.
