Dear Maintainer,

on Debian/testing GNU Linux, currently, I use Dash To Dock as extension with GNOME from the Debian APT package manager. When I configure Dash To Dock with transparent background in the appearance settings, and often change the background image, for example with the Variety Wallpaper Changer ( https://github.com/varietywalls/variety ), the whole GUI may freeze after one to two days usage. The GUI freeze does not halt the underlying Linux system, but the GUI output from Xorg or Wayland is completely halted and stalled.

The system must be rebooted warm or cold to use Xorg or Wayland again.

The bug does not appear, choosing "Use theme by default" (change setting to enabled) in the last tab of Dash to Dock Properties, the Appearance settings.

Thank you very much for your kind attention.

Sincerely,

Adrian Kiess

Next time the problem happens, please reboot and then run:

journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

Dear Maintainer,

the crash leaves no information in journalctl, but I look forward giving you the requested information.

I assume this is a general problem of the GNOME window manager, since this bug also happens with the Blur my Shell GNOME extension.

When I used Blur my Shell, which also uses transparency to the wallpaper, the in my previous message mentioned halt of the GNOME desktop also happens!

The problem might be found inside GNOME. But I am no expert in GTK+ and GNOME programming.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Dear Maintainer,

the crash of the GNOME desktop leaves no information in journalctl. It was happening again today.

The last lines of # journalctl -b -1 are:

which contains no specific informations, why the crash is happening.

I now also disabled the Run Cat and the Kernel (version) Indicator GNOME extension on my desktop, to further nail down the issue.

Thank you.
