This is your friendly Microsoft Issue Bot. I've seen this issue come in and have gone to tell a human about it. |
No, it cannot. Back in the Windows 8 days, this UWP was derived from the original |
Can this program be used with older versions of MS Windows (without the Microsoft Store)? |
@dimqua It's probably worth noting that Windows 7 has less than a year of life left, so unless you're super excited about Windows 8.1 for some reason, you should be running Windows 10. |
@ocdtrekkie well I am super exited about running win8.1 (but not vanilla obviously) as w10 is REALLY not my thing, especially with privacy and the condescending policy of "we own your PC now" from microsoft that a lot of stuff (like updates) have been fairly locked down in w10. (dont wanna start a big discussion though), but having the ability to do stuff with the classic calc would be fun. |
@My1 If you install updates, your Win 8.1 machine has all of the same telemetry antifeatures that Windows 10 does, with non of the vastly improved security features Windows 10 has. |
telemetry is not the only antifeatire of w10. also unlike on w10 where it's just "updates" or "no updates" on 8.1 it's the same as 7 meaning I can not only kick out those telemetry things but as time and time again shows MS can release broken updates (I dont nessecarily blame them for that, as an OS is pretty damn complicated), but on 8.1 I can for example if I read that KB-whatever is broken, just not install that one but let the other ones go through. also if I want to change something (like add the win7 design back) ever since that last big "Windows 8.1 Update" from april 2014, my system does what I want and updates dont get in my way (which is good). also MS has devalued or tried to devalue the w10 pro a few times already. for example the "Turn off Microsoft consumer features" feature which recommends apps and whatever is something I dont need or want, and I think it's bonkers that things like candy crush comes preinstalled or will be auto-downloaded on w10. or the anniversary update tried to make it so that the "lock screen" before the "login screen" which you have to swipe/click away before you can enter your password couldnt be disabled unless you were enterprise (they had to backpaddle on that though, but that they even tried is ugly), and I might wanna say that that thing is useless and kinda annoying on desktops imo. also security features like what the security panel asking you to link a damn MS account already, no thanks. (just kidding, I know w10 has also some real features for example to try to protect your user folder from ransomware, but that MS account thing is just annoying) |
Ignoring the unrelated bits of this thread, getting an alternate UI would be nice so the calculator doesn't take a full second or more to load and thus losing input when presseing Win+r calc Enter then typing something like 2*3+2Enter and it somehow only getting 2Enter. There's no reason the calculator should be taking more than a few milliseconds to load, not 1-3 seconds... The UWP slowness is absolutely bind-boggling irritating and has caused errors in a great number of entered formula. |
Thanks @OvermindDL1 - launch performance is currently being tracked by #209. |
Can the old winform UI be built from this codebase?
