Is there an existing issue for this?

What would you like to be added?

The current OSS file format, with many shortcomings, is hard coded, preventing from further development and complexity.

It would be easier if the format can be configured. A handful supported formats would be enough, e.g., native, parquet, etc.

Why is this needed?
