Armor is nice and all, but, sometimes you want the defense of the armor but also want to show off your nice skin to your friends. Well, why not? A button somewhere in the UI that can toggle armor visibility would be a great addition I think.

A chat-command will do just fine IMO: this is more of an "expert" feature, no need to clutter the ui any more than it already is.

A command would be nice, but the option for a button (disabled by default but able to be enabled via a setting) would be nice too.
