chrome extension + ubuntu 12.04 - Verification email never arrives

I'm consistently failing to receive the verification email that gets sent when I attempt to log into Mitro from my ubuntu workstation for the first time. I've had no such problem on my Windows and Mac computers, nor on my android phone, and have been using the tool successfully on those for awhile now. I've made a handful of attempts on this ubuntu machine, first a month or two ago and then most recently today.

Not sure of ubuntu is really a part of the issue or not, but it's the only isolating factor I've noticed.

I've attempted on Mac as well and never received a verification email. Seems likely related to #35

No updates? Same issue, firefox dev edition under ubuntu 15.04.
