Hi @Urahx I'll be glad to help you. Before answering your specific questions, it will help me if you answer some questions for me:

Okay, so a desktop system with the AP outside of the apartment. As long as you can get 30 Mbps, that is good. USB-A and it needs to work well with Windows 10/11 and Linux. Since I am not there to test signal strength, I am going to lean toward adapters that have longer range just in case. That eliminates the small/nano adapters. I took a look around amazon.sa and he are a couple of initial recommendations: Panda Wireless® PAU0B AC600 Dual Band (2.4GHz and 5GHz) Wireless N USB Adapter W/High Gain Antenna - Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11, Mint, Ubuntu, openSUSE, Fedora, Rocky, Kali Linux and Raspbian https://www.amazon.sa/-/en/Panda-Wireless%C2%AE-PAU0B-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B08NPX2X4Z ALFA Network AWUS036ACHM 802.11ac WiFi Range Boost USB Adapter https://www.amazon.sa/-/en/ALFA-Network-AWUS036ACHM-802-11ac-Adapter/dp/B08SJBV1N3 Both of those adapter are well known to work very well with Windows 10/11 and Linux. They are Plug and Play. No need to install a driver. They are AC600 adapter like the one you said has the rtl8821cu chip. I have a couple of adapter with the rtl8821cu chip. I even worked on a team over the last year trying to improve support for this chip in rtw88, which is in-kernel support in Linux. I also have an out-of-kernel driver for this chip here at this site. I cannot recommend new purchase of an adapter with the rtl8821/11cu as there are some odd things about this chip. It would likely be better if you get a separate bluetooth adapter. Since range is short with bluetooth, a nano adapter should work well and I can help you find one if you wish. Think about what I have said and let me know if you have questions. |

It is not something I would buy for my own use or recommend to others but it is cheap. That "Driver Free" you see on the adapter means that it is likely a multi-state adapter, meaning it has a Windows driver onboard, which can be problematic. It likely has limited range. You can try it. If you need help with it, I will try. |

Based on your information, I think good range is important also.
I am confident the two adapters I recommended would meet your needs but it is hard to tell for sure so I am leaning toward more capable adapters.
If it has a rtl8812bu chip, then that is probably a better choice. I know it seems to have good reviews but those can be made up. While this is likely a better choice than the previous adapter, I cannot say for sure as there is a lack of information. Do you have the ability to order from AliExpress? https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806890325069.html?gatewayAdapt=glo2usa4itemAdapt This adapter is low cost and with the antennas, it may have the range you want if it is positioned properly which will require some testing. |

If the last one I sent, the Fenvi FV-AX1801D, is within your budget, then I would go with it without a second thought. The 2 week wait should be worth it as you will be getting an adapter that could meet your needs for many years as it is tri-band and WiFi 6 capable. It is amazing that a modern usb adapter with the mt7921au chip is available for a low price but this adapter is actually in the Plug and Play List here at this site. I have heard from enough people that have bought it that I think it is good enough to be in the list. You probably should download the Windows driver from the Fenvi site to be ready for it to arrive. For Linux, as long as you are using a reasonable up to date distro such as Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12, this adapter will be plug and play... forget about looking for a driver. It does not support BT but I can help you look for a cheap nano BT adapter when you are ready. |

Yes, please let me know. You may have to experiment to see which band provides the best throughput. Something that is likely true, even though the adapter says it is AX1800, is that the adapter is really AXE3000. That is, it is likely a tri-band adapter. Early on, some of the makers of adapter with the mt7921au chip, advertised their adapters as AX1800 but they turned out to be AXE3000. The best explanation we can find is that at the time Windows could not do band 4 (6 GHz) so the adapters did not advertise that they could do it. |

That was fast.
It may not be the wifi adapter that is at fault. I would first like to see if we can get a better signal. I use a USB3 extension cable. That way I can can reposition the adapter on top of the computer or someplace higher where it has direct site of the wifi router/AP. However, what can you do to see if you can get a better signal is move the computer a little at a time while testing in between moving. Maybe that can help. The problem with the port on the back of the computer is that the computer can seriously degrade the signal if the computer is between your adapter and the wifi router/AP. If I knew how your internet service is setup, I could suggest some other things but I do not know. Do you see channels for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz or just 2.4 GHz? |

Knowing approximately where the router is located can help with placement of your computer that uses the wifi adapter. I'm thinking like a radio wave when I say this. Your phone may be handy to help determine this. Do you have an Android phone?
I understand. This may take some time. We need you to have the best signal and also have your router on the least congested channels. High or inconsistent ping times can be caused by several things but high congestion and weak signals are on the list of things that contribute.
This can help a lot. Before we work on the settings in the router, we need to know approximately what levels of congestion exist on the supported bands and channels. This is why I asked you if you have an Android phone.
I do not recognize the picture. What is it? Hang in there with me. When you said you live in an apartment, I knew this could be a challenge. Congestion is often a serious problem in apartments. In this situation, finding the best band and best channel along with the best placement of your computer is required to optimize performance. The HUAWEI WiFi AX3 is a dual band WiFi 6 capable wifi router. I am reading about it. |

I use the following Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer&hl=en_US Install it and learn to use it. It should prove useful to help you find where the wifi router is located in relation to your apartment. You can watch the signal level as you move around your apartment to see where the signal is best. As far as finding the best band and channel goes. This is actually a poor man's way of doing this as it cannot measure exactly how much traffic is flowing on the channels but it can give us a starting point for testing: Look at how many AP's are on the various channels that are available to you. A channel with many AP's is likely to be more congested and should be avoided. I find it handy to write down how many AP's are on the channels as it gives me a picture of what is going on. Do you have the capability to change the channels on your wifi router?
