An option to directly read a text file in LibreOffice or a PDF and pick up where it left off would be great.

I think you meant "odt" (or doc/docx) file instead of "Libreoffice".
This feature make sense, I must confess (but not easy).

I suggest an entry on gSpeech menu like "read file" who will open a filepicker.
A second entry "files history" would allow to reopen a file and pick up where it left (The last phrase I think).

Difficulty :

  • choose good librairies (debian/ubuntu and nix package) to do this.
  • not explode on big file : cut with buffers...
For this point, I think I will devlop a first naive version. (error message when file is too big)

Thanks for suggestion @LAfricain
