ask ESA what notebooks they are writing?

figure out what we need to do to highlight IRSA cloud access. cloud enabled workflows

what is the software stack that a user will need, is specutils the right tool?

Vandana and Harry have some suggested use cases

update 4/17
in may we will get some Euclid data, not in exactly the same format as final format

  • high level products:
  • low level products:
Euclid release 1 will be out in a year.
prepared with notebooks that show people how to use the data.
  1. how will people use Euclid with other datasets
  2. can you successfully get the images and use them
  3. can you get co-added spectra
  4. compare Euclid spectra to another telescope's spectra
  5. how to read in the spectra

can't use code already existing on IRSA - that is not python, need more visualization.

  • Vandana will make an outline of a new notebook for this so Jessica can get an idea of what needs to be done.

Folks, theLast release of the UltraVISTA Public Survey Data has been released. This might be something to include in a Euclid notebook.

From Brigitta: astroquery’s eso archive is in the middle of a very slow refactoring to switch to the VO backends instead of the webscraped interfaces, but maybe this dataset is also available through the VISTA archive up an ROE, after all the same VISTA team produced it as the rest of the VISTA surveys.

Draft outline possibility 1 (can be done now)

Draft outline possibility 2 (can be done now)

Draft outline possibility 3 (must lay the groundwork for publication of notebook with March 2025 Euclid Quick Release 1)

  • Introduce data coverage ([20 deg^2 EDF-N, 10 deg^2 EDF Fornax, 23 deg^2 EDF-S] )
  • Choose interesting objects from the Euclid photometry catalog (can use OTF as a proprietary stand-in)
  • Find all Euclid spectra for these interesting sources (can use another IVOA search as a stand-in)
  • Use specutils to read in the spectra (can use OTF as a proprietary stand-in)
  • Use Firefly to display the spectra
