Reconnecting : Uncaught TypeError: Illegal invocation #148

I have a Vuex mutation that reassigns the $socket on the Vue prototype as per the standard documentation}

SOCKET_ON_CONNECTED: (state, event) => {
        Vue.prototype.$socket = event.currentTarget;
        state.socket.isConnected = true;
},

When the connection first starts, i get the correct event passed to the mutation. like below

however when i get disconnected and attempt to reconnect, i get the following console error and an event with every property set to UncaughtTypeError
