Caught empty emoji in status log

I know there's an item in the backlog making the emoji optional but that's not ready right? since I don't the button in my status log. But,

My tests caught an interesting case today : )

I didn't tried hard to find bugs in the system with such a detail to create an status without a emoji but is this case worth looking into : )?
