Which platform are you targeting? Does it require Scala 2.11?

Currently not, but I think it's time to upgrade.

Document of Spark2.2.0 says

Spark runs on Java 8+, Python 2.7+/3.4+ and R 3.1+. For the Scala API, Spark 2.2.0 uses Scala 2.11. You will need to use a compatible Scala version (2.11.x).

More and more people would use Spark2.0+, and I believe a lot coders will appreciate the support of spark-hbase-connector for scala2.11

completely agree, even zeppelin now ships with scala 2.11 now
