Proposed functionality

The idea to group virtual chassis in ##497 is great but what if we go a step further. My idea is to add a function that a virtual chassis can be shown as one object and can be collapsed into all the members.

Use case

I created a stack of 4 switches. These 4 switches are in one virtual chassis. 2 of the 4 switches have an uplink to the core switch which is also in a virtual chassis (Core is a 2 switch stack). One uplink goes to core switch 1 the other to core switch 2. If I add a new virtual chassis which is the same as the first one all the cable will traverse each other. If there is an option to stack both core switches to show just one stack (the virtual chassis) the topology view would be much cleaner.

I am in support of this as well. I created a discussion about this last year, and I think it would be doable. See discussion #218.

it would be really interesting to add this function to topology view

This seems to be a very interesting idea for some people (see also #33). As stated in #218 , I don't think it's a trivial thing. Virtual Chassis havn't got any interfaces (nor other connection options). So we need to work around this. As in all areas, workarounds are not solutions and I suspect that this would create a lot more work in the future.

At least for me, it's not worth the work. If someone wants to volunteer for a PR, I'd happily accept this feature and assign him/her. Just raise your hand and give a little idea how you would like to solve this.
