Is there anything that we can take out to make packages simpler?

I.e., are they becoming too complex in what they are able of describing?

and related to this: is there too much flexibility (too many optional pieces, deviations, etc) that will foster implementations that diverge too much from eachother ?

From the meeting on 8th Oct, their seemed to be general consensus to keep the package definition as simple as possible, at least in the initial version. So, perhaps this issue can just be closed, at least for the time being?
