FAQ: describe Matrix system #7
Comments
Thanks for asking! (And welcome to Github :-) Matrix is based on repositories which are sync'd with clients and other servers, rather like Git. TMTP is a store-and-forward system, which is how email works. I need to summarize Matrix in the FAQ. |
But the fundamental difference is that Matrix is federated, meaning anyone on it is accessible to everyone else on the Internet. That makes it a likely phishing pond (given enough adoption), just like email. Also, Matrix is a very complex protocol. TMTP is quite simple. So there is some overlap, but fundamental differences. |
Dear Liam,
Thanks for that. I am using element on a number of my building projects to try to deal with a now-very-poor postal service in botswana, plus copying each item to web site with password required.
Regards,
David Young

Would matrix.org not have a considerable overlap with this system?
