As logbook data are quite delicate data and any file corruption or mistakes while editing the logbook could have unrecoverable consequences, it would be great to have some kind of backup function (manual or automatic) and/or to always save a second version of the database which contains the state of the database from before the last save.

Yes - how about a subfolder with autosave files and timestamps in the filename?
