Copying parts of Simulink model via Matlab

We want to be able to use Matlab to copy more than just one block of a Simulink model.

One way is probably to put everything into subsystems and copy the entire subsystem and later fix the linking/variables. Is there another way?

The goal is to copy the entire closed loop, i.e., NN controller, plant, reference or reference link. For now we can ignore high level controllers, mappings, go-to blocks, etc.
