Hi, I have PW3 with 5.16.2.1.1 firmware. I don't have any language select after step 12. I connect my device to laptop at "Press the Power Button" step, copy and replace contents of the LanguageBreak folder again, eject Kindle, long press power button to restart and device just reboots in demo mode again with some menu elements in grey.

I've tried multiple times - with unplugging device after step 12 and with plugged in but ejected, I've done a factory reset and firmware restore multiple times but effect is the same.

I can confirm I am having the same issue. (Editing to clarify I have also tried a short press instead of a long press, but I've also tried the other variations mentioned above.)

hey guys, I had the same issue, but I did a factory reset, installed the 5.16.2.1.1 firmware and redit everything from scratch, but this time I noticed the tutorial does not say unplug for the last step after Resell (So do NOT unplug), just "Safely remove" and I pressed the power button, and I got the language screen as expected, and also the logs after boot.

Have you tried installing the hotfix? If not then do try it. If it doesn't work install the firmware version you are on to fix some stuff and attempt the Jailbreak again

I've tried. Installing hotfix with no effect, resetting, installing firmware again, still no effect - after step 12 just only restarting without any logs showing and language choosing(

Yeah i have something similar. I did manage to select Chinese (but no Pseudot text) and see the logs on boot time, but then it's not booting into Demo mode, and running ;uzb and ;dsts is not necessary, but installing the hotfix doesn't do anything. It does install successfully, but ;log does not work afterwards. I also tried installing the hotfix twice as someone else mentioned, didn't work either.

I tried rewriting 5.16.2.1.1, reset Kindle, rewrite again, same result.

@notmarek is there any recommended way to look at logs? I did find some files being created on the Kindle, but it's a lot of data, not sure what I should look at. I'll try to check the scripts in the following days to understand how they work at least, maybe I can find the reason.

Thanks!

You seem to have done everything correctly and be jailbroken , what do you mean log doesn't work?

@notmarek that would be great news, but something seems to still not work.
I'm trying this frm the FAQ section:

Q: How do I verify my installation?

A: (before applying hotfix): Install hotfix, if you can do that then it worked.

A: (after applying hotfix): Type ;log into the Kindle search bar, some text should appear at the top right side of the screen.

Writing ;log or ;log mrpi in the search field does not do anything, am I doing something wrong?

The first hotfix install seems to work successfully, but then if i try to reinstall it i get an error:

EDIT: OK, I think I made a stupid mistake, it seems the .demo folder was not copied over, because it was not shown for me on Linux. I will with it and update.

I've just realized, that I was trying to install hotfix, but with no success, Kindle said failed to install

@petrpopov it seems I finally managed to do it, don't give up hope ! :)
My issue was that I was not copying .demo file and patchedUks.sqsh for some reason. After I copied over both of them correctly, I also had Pseudot appearing after the Chinese language.
Steps I took last time and it worked:

  • Copy and update original 5.16.2.1.1 firmware
  • Reset Kindle
  • Copy and update original 5.16.2.1.1 firmware again
  • Follow the steps in the tutorial - but I also disconnected the usb cable after step 11, and it may have caused my next issue
  • Rebooted and had a crash while demo mode was starting, something with APP12 IIRC, ;uzb and all the other commands were not working
  • Rebooted once again and ;uzb started working again, I copied over the hotfix and followed the tutorial, and now it says MRI is not installed if i do ;log mrpi
