I'm sorry if this is a wrong place, but I just wanted to ask about the current status of Mailspring-Libre. I really like the FLOSS idea of Mailspring, because I'm looking for an open source daily driver for email client. The original Mailspring has problems like not being able to remove drafts which seems to be fixed on this version.

But. Does Mailspring-Libre has a future? Last release was over two years ago, this is why I'm asking. Thanks.

Mailspring-Libre's purpose was mostly to allow using Mailspring without it's ID service. Since that was implemented in Mailspring itself a couple years ago, this project has been stagnating. Other than that little patch, Mailspring-Libre was closely following Mailspring releases, so any bugs introduced there would land here too.

Forking Mailspring might be a good idea, but I think if you do you'll have to have a plan in mind to maintain it – it's a huge project by itself. Unfortunately I don't really have a lot of time for that, having other projects on my hands :(

@notpushkin OK, thanks for this info. This issue should perhaps left open if anyone is willing to continue maintaining/developing it. I'm also way overworked and too busy right now personally, but always curious about what happening.

Mailspring is almost perfect email app for me, but it has occasional glitches with sync, deleting drafts and sending emails which are the most essential features of the email app... thus, it's kinda unreliable right now.

This is a strange question to ask on a GitHub issue, but I'm asking it anyway: What email app you personally use? I'd really need a recommendation now that Spark 2 is going to be exstinct. Preferably should work on Mac and Linux, but for now only Mac is sufficient for me.

@ronilaukkarinen Personally, I'm still on Mailspring right now actually. I've had some issues with it, but nothing too quirky – definitely no problems with sync or sending. Have you asked about your situation on the forums, by the way?

If it gets too bad, I think I'll just go back to Thunderbird and see how their redesign turned out.

Thanks for the answer.

I haven't, but I've read there's many similar topics left unanswered. I have many large email accounts that contain decades of messages, perhaps that can be of an issue. The most frustrating bug is the one that emails are left to Outbox and syncing forever. I can't deal with that.

I just found Mimestream (not open source, but it's okay) for Mac and it seems perfect. Will probably stick to that.

Seems like mailspring itself has stopped receiving updates with the dev seemingly MIA. Wanted to explore using Mailspring Libre as a base, forking it and bringing everything under the hood up to date. My reasoning on starting here vs Mailspring itself was from what I understand, snooze and send later works without having a mailspring id or being connected to the mailspring server on Libre and that would be a pretty good spot to start on.

Just checking for thoughts on this. I do realize it would be a pretty big project, but, it's something I can put the time into.

@dealend Go for it!

Snooze and send later (along with other features not depending on the server) should be fairly easy to “crack” in Mailspring proper (see fc0b841).
Please do this responsibly though! (I'm hoping to make a living with an open source product myself now, so I know the struggle @bengotow is/was going through trying to monetize Mailspring)

Any updates? Never used mailspring before, but I like the philosophy of this libre fork, and might download after windows said they were retiring the windows 10 mail app in a year...

Hello @notpushkin, Do you have any instructions for applying patches to the official Mailspring codebase? You already have done it in the past, so I guess it should not be that much of a difference. If instructions are provided, I can try to patch the latest code (as of 2024) and remove the telemetry and mailspring ID from the proper place. The codebase is huge and it gets me lost, that's why I'm asking.
