source development team on network biology related tools and

<p>
If you are familiar with how the <a
href="http://code.google.com/soc/">Google Summer of Code
program</a> works, then you have the basic idea. Basically, you find a
project idea you like, and we match you with the appropriate
mentors who then evaluate your application. <a

<li><a name="eligible"></a><b>Who is eligible to participate
in NRNB Academy?</b>
<p>Anyone!</p></li>
<li><a name="university"></a><b>Is NRNB Academy an
accredited learning institution?</b>
<p>No. NRNB Academy is not a university, college or other
accredited learning institution. NRNB Academy projects do not
result in academic credit or a diploma.</p></li>

<p class="text-success lead">Applying to NRNB Academy</p>

<li><a name="apply"></a><b>How do I apply?</b>
<p>
You can submit applications at any time. First, check out our <a
href="academy-ideas.html">Ideas Page</a>. Do some background
research on the ideas of interest to you. You can also discuss your
ideas with the mentoring organization before submitting an
application. Once you have settled on a project idea, complete the
<a href="academy-admissions.html">Admissions Form</a> to start the
process. The admin will follow up with you to put you in contact
with potential mentors. At this point, you should start putting
together your official application.

application look like?</b>

Your application should include the following:

<li>Your information
<ul>
<li>Name, email, and website <em>(optional)</em></li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Brief background: education and relevant work experience</li>
<li>Your programming interests and strengths
<ul>
<li>What are your languages of choice?</li>
<li>Any prior experience with open source development?</li>
<li>What do you want to learn through this program?</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Your interest and background in biology or bioinformatics
<ul>
<li>Any prior exposure to biology or bioinformatics?</li>
<li>Any interest in learning a bit of biology?</li>
</ul>
</li>
<li>Your ideas for a project (an original idea or one
expanded from our <a href="academy-ideas.html">Ideas Page</a>)

<li>Provide as much detail as possible</li>
<li><em>Strong applicants include an implementation
plan and timeline (hint!)</em></li>

one application?</b>
<p>Yes, but only one application will be accepted. Note that
quality is preferred over quantity when it comes to applications.</p>

<p class="text-success lead">Mentoring Organizations</p>
<ol>
<li><a name="mentoringorg"></a><b>What is a mentoring
organization?</b>
<p>Any organization involved in open-source software development
related to NRNB tools or related systems biology tools.</p></li>
<li><a name="orgroles"></a><b>What is the role of the
mentoring organization?</b>
<p>
Each mentoring organization is expected to provide:
<ul>
<li>A pool of project ideas you are interested in mentoring.
These will be publicly posted on our <a href="academy-ideas.html">Ideas
Page</a>.
</li>
<li>A person or group responsible for discussing proposals
with potential enrollees, and ultimately reviewing and accepting
applications.</li>
<li>A person or group of people responsible for monitoring
the progress of each accepted project.</li>
<li>A written evaluation of each participant at the
conclusion of the project.</li>
</ul>

<li><a name="gsoc"></a><b>What is Google Summer of Code?</b>
<p>
<a href="http://code.google.com/soc/">Google Summer of Code
(GSoC)</a> is a global program funded by Google that offers student
developers stipends to write code for various open source software
projects. NRNB participates in GSoC each summer, utilizing the same
pool of mentors and ideas. Check out the <a href="gsoc.html">NRNB
GSoC page</a> for more information.

<li><a name="gsoc-nrnb"></a><b>What is the relationship
between NRNB Academy and Google Summer of Code?</b>
<p>NRNB Academy is not part of Google Summer of Code and is not
affiliated with Google. The programs are similar in how they are
organized and operated, and NRNB has participated in Google Summer
of Code as a mentoring organization, but that is the extent of the
similarities. If NRNB is accepted as a GSoC mentoring organization
in the future, some project ideas may overlap between NRNB Academy
and our GSoC participation. However, acceptance to NRNB Academy
does not guarantee a GSoC project with NRNB. For eligeble projects,
a separate application for GSoC is required, which will be
evaluated competitively under the framweork of GSoC.</p></li>
