Retinal necrosis can result from vascular occlusion, viral infections such as varicella-zoster virus (VZV) or cytomegalovirus (CMV), or autoimmune processes. Clinically, it presents with retinal whitening, hemorrhages, and potential retinal detachment, often leading to severe visual impairment or blindness if untreated.
