Non-English synonyms #1646
Comments
Hi, any volunteer to address my non-english synonyms question please? |
Dealing with languages has been under active discussion led by @matentzn in OBO recently: OBOFoundry/OBOFoundry.github.io#479 |
I would like to build proper language profiles for Uberon - but I was going to do that first for HPO. My suggestion is this:
Right now we have only 83 translated synonyms, which does not really merrit a huge effort here. |
I wish in all honesty we had the time to deal with this.. Internationalisation would be such a massive move forward for our users.. |
Hi,
I understand that some non-English synonyms in UBERON are derived from older ontologies (see #209). I presume you may want to keep them for historical and referencing reasons. However, I wonder if keeping them (only) in the current format is ideal, e.g.
http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/UBERON_0011238
UBERON:0011238 mesethmoid bone
Synonyms: dermethmocïde@fr mésethmocïde@fr
Those synonyms are interpretable by a human, but probably not very helpful in text searches. If Uberon has an interest in providing non-English synonyms, perhaps consider adding "dermethmocïde" and "mésethmocïde" as exact synonyms?
There are several other occurrences of Uberon synonyms with "@"s.
Thanks,
Paola
