Process doesn't die if you X out of the "new version available" prompt

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. "A new version is available. Visit website?"
2. X out of the window
3. The process will still be open in Task Manager
4. Try to run the installer for a new version, and you will get an error,
as the process is currently being used

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The process should end, but doesn't. 

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
v1.6 on Windows XP

Please provide any additional information below.
